What type of bugs and what type of plants will help get you a more specific answer. Often bugs don't like the smell of marigolds so you can plant those around your other plants.

Try looking at the underside of the leaves to see if it is a beetle, bug, or caterpillar. Once you know what the critter is, it is easier to know how to deter them. If it is a caterpillar (maybe a green hormworm) so look closely, you can just pull them off and get rid of them.
