How do I remove mud stains out of a white football jersey?

One way it to soak them in bleach and hot water but if you want to avoid chemicals, try soaking in lemon juice and hanging them outside in the sun. The combination of the lemon juice and the sun can make dingy whites look new again. Wishing you the best.
Oxiclean or Old Fashioned Bluing works well for my towels. If you use oxi-clean, use the hottest water possible. Sometimes I even boil water for it.
A blueing agent or Borax should help to brighten any laundry. Bleach will cause them to yellow in many cases. Lemon juice and sun drying as someone suggested is also good.
