How do I hang a mirror?

I am using 5 gauge 50mm screws what size drill bit do i use 5 or 6 and also what size wall plug?Thanks Eileen

    Hi Eileen. If you are using screws you must drill into studs or masonry block. If your house is drywall or lathe the screws will not hold. Use picture anchors instead. As far as the drill bit is concerned, you need one smaller than the screw - never larger nor not the same size. You must leave something for the screw to grab on to.

      Yes, Glass is very heavy.


      If your mirror is large and has “picture cable/wire” on the back, you can screw into two studs and span the studs, if the stud spacing isn’t working for your layout/design.

    Google it: 50mm = 1.9 8 inches

  • Are you able to drill right into the wall stud? That will help make it more secure than using anchors

    “Wall plug”? Do you mean a “molly” or a plastic screw thread insert, for drywall?


    If so, you’ll have to go to the store & read what size screws they’re made for. Their sizing is exact.

    Whatever you do, ensure your hanger is sufficient to hold the weight of the mirror.
