I HAVE A METAL TOP TABLE THAT IS MADE OF INDIVIDUAL DROP IN INSETS. SINCE THIS TABLE HAS DIVIDING BARS BETWEEN THEM THE TOP IS NOT FLAT. NEED IDEA TO COVER THE TABLE TOP WITH SOMETHING THAT WILL MAKE IT SMOOTH. GLASS IS OUT OF THE QUESTION. (TOO EXPENSIVE). THIS IS A PATIO TABLE SO IT IS OUTSIDE. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE HELPFUL.

Plexiglass might work but not sure what the cost of that is compared to glass.

Sanded plywood that you treat would also work. I think it runs around $55/sheet.

I would get a piece of glass cut for the top and set that over top.

Plexiglass would be very expensive also.

Is your table round or rectangle? What are the dimensions?

      Mmmm, that's fairly big....

I was thinking about vinyl fence panels. You would likely have to get the panel cut down to size, and then there would be the raw edges to contend with, so although it would be a water-proof solid surface, it may not be cheaper in the long run than just purchasing a new table....

Also, places such as Industrial Plastics, and marine materials suppliers sell sheets of PVC plastic in different thicknesses.
