What time do you put him down at night?
I made a DIY gate to keep my dog in but I am not sure it would work for a toddler, perhaps you would be better going with a child safe gate that goes across his room. You will want to keep him safe at all costs!
You could use two pressure gates one on top of the other to try and keep him in his room. I am afraid however, that he will try and climb the gates and fall. A wooden screen door is another option-they have them at Home Depot for a bit less than 100.00. You could use a hook and eye latch to keep it closed at night. The screen could be an issue however. I had a child who roamed the house at night when he was less than 2 years old. He cooked in the kitchen. SERIOUSLY. He could fry an egg without breaking the yolk...and he did. I had to shut the stove breakers off at night, duct tape the fridge shut, and tie the cabinet doors together. Eventually he slept in my room and I shut my bedroom door and put bells on it so I could here it if he opened the door. Very smart child, curious, and full of energy. He grew up to be a doctor. That is the child who gave me my gray hair.
Here are some ideas. Hope one of them works. Good luck.
