When I lived in WI, I tried got pepper spray, it burned my hostas. Well, I thought about it and know that deer don't like onions. I took literally one to three blades of chives and planted them between all of my hostas. So, I had beautiful variegated hostas with the purple flowers on them and the chives were a darker green with a different shape and color of people flowers on. Nothing ever touched my hostas again!
