Furniture store should sell leather conditioner
Head over to a high end furniture store or tack shop, they have the best products available. Toss a throw on the sofa for the cat. Unless you are home all day to train him or her, that's the easiest.
I've heard of people that covered their couches in plastic tarps when not in use. The cats didn't like it and eventually gave up on the couch. Hope it helps.
