It depends on the material you want to use. You can stencil it, use tile, wood, stone, etc. Decide what to use and go from there, Rita.

I did ours with 25 cent, 8 inch ceramic floor tiles, on sale at Lowes! You can really use anything, just get your idea in your head and look for the materials. THEN Google the how-to and get started.
