Hi Margaret - Those little buggers are relentless, aren't they?!? This is the most effective method and all-natural spray DIY that we use with ants. It's best indoors, but will also work outside with more frequent applications. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly

your go to is Optiguard Ant Gel. Buy it on Amazon. it works like nothing else. A few bead of gel in their path goes back to the nest to kill the queen. I have had the best luck with it in most cases 24 hours NO MORE ants. If you use the "recipes" for sprays most people give you, you are just moving them elsewhere not getting rid of them.
Make a Mix of boric acid/borax, sugar and water, put it in small shallow dishes in areas the ants are.
If you have pets/animals/children that could get into or near It, soak cotton balls in the mixture and place them in shallow dishes in the areas you know there are ants. Èspecially if you know the path they use, place them directly in their path and they'll have a hay day!
You can make up an ant bait using laundry borax and white sugar (50/50). You just need a small amount. Place them in plastic bottle caps, near where you find them. Make sure that this is placed out of reach from small children an pets.
I like the ease of a commercial ant trap— both indoors and outdoors. The Terro brand that I have used with great sucess with -is recommended quite highly. You can check out the reviews and Q&A here— to see if it would meet your needs. I recently set them up a few weeks ago and —problem is once again —solved.
Once you get these traps in place the ant problem is distant memory. They are very effortless, effective and cost-effective. They do not smell badly like an ant aerosol spray does.
I sometimes also use Terro outdoor versions— outside around the foundation perimeter as the ants can be seen under rocks and in my seasonal flowering planters, the do like shade and moisture.
