I would stain the wooden walkway. Then add some type of trellis with a climbing plant like clematis or a tall fountain on the opposite side of the tree to balance the height.
I love the grey and yellow colour combo. Are you concerned about the holes? They don’t look too bad from this angle. I would put some concrete orbs, pots or statues on them if they bother you and if you like a symmetrical look. I quite like the rustic look of the path. Then you need some plants of various heights and trim the edges of the lawn.
If you aren’t going for the symmetrical look completely, move the front pots away from the path and into the garden in various spots. This will make the area look more spacious.
It actually looks pretty like it is. To not spend to much maybe weed the garden, add black mulch, leave the pathway like that or a rustic brownish stain, add a tall plant to the vase u have, fix the missing patches of grass in front. Very pretty home.
You have a beautiful space there leading to your front door. I like the idea of a trellis to balance the tree but I would put it on the otherside out towards the front, diagonally from the tree. You also need a diagonal balance for the large plant next to the tree. You could get a duplicate of the plant that is on the far left front of the photo and plant it in the middle of the planting bed on the right side. That would give you a triangle of the large plants. I don't like the ferns out on the end of the walkway. I think it closes the area up. Just one on the right would be better than two and that would temporarily balance the large plant by the tree.
I would move the ferns in the yellow pots and place them on both sides of the narrow window on the brick wall or on either side of the window to the right of the door. Moving the ferns will visually open up the area. You could plant some smaller variety hostas in the area where the yellow pots are now.
The tree appears to be very close to the foundation of the house, you might consider having it removed. The roots of a tree cover an area 3 times larger than the trees canopy
Adorable space!
How about moving the yellow planters on either side of the door... perhaps also a bench or some kind of seating? Front patios are popular lately.
