Hi Jean,
You could plant flowering trees or bushes if you want but it will take a few years for them to grow enough to hide the fence. Visit a local nursery to see what they have available in your area. Try to choose something native to your state because they are adapted to the climate and soil. If you want to get creative, you could design a whole garden along the fence. I personally like gardens with curves for interest so the garden along the side of our home curves in the middle and out at the ends. The ends have trees while the middle has bushes. You could get some help from a landscaper for that type of design. Another option is to grow a hedge along the fence. As you're thinking and researching what to do, also think about garden accessories that you can DIY. You'll find garden fountains, painted pots, pot people, gazing balls and all kinds of garden solar lights made from other Hometalk members. Just search in the garden section to see what you like. Wishing you the best.
Plants, patio, small deck, water feature.
Clematis, climbing roses, honeysuckle - all sorts of climbers to choose from and the choice will depend on soil and aspect so tell us more about the soil you have and which way your new fence faces because that affects available sunlight and thus what will grow.
Jean....I would do pots with plants, maybe bird bath, garden flags, even shepherd hooks with hanging baskets of flowers. Good luck!
What about planting a climbing vine?
