I use 1/3 bottle of hydrogen peroxide when I wash my whites. Bleach tends to make whites dingy and breaks down the fibers over time. Most oxygen detergents are peroxide based.
I use Oxiclean.
Is the laundry you want to whiten any particular fabric composition- for example, mostly cotton, mostly nylon, polyester, etc.?
Unfortunately white synthetic fabrics such as polyester and nylon over time, repeated wearings, and multiple washings with colored garments, sometimes take on a yellowy or grungy grey colour.
If the items have been dried with heat in an automatic dryer, the discolouration might have already set into the fibres, and it may be next to impossible to try to re-whiten them without damaging the garment.
You can try soaking the laundry items in Blueing.
Mrs. Stewart's brand has been a trusted product for about 150 years.
