My mom uses those thick rubber non slip mats with holes in them like they use in kitchens and behind the bar at Starbucks.
There are three considerations to safe ramps,
Firstly ther gradient - here in the UK we recommend for every inch the rmp extends 15" (for a self propelled non electric ramp),
Secondly a kickstand along the edge to stop a wheelchair veering over the edge of the ramp accidentally, if able bodied people are using it a handrail along the edge,
Lastly the surface of the ramp needs to be non slip. you can buy anti slip coating paint, alternativeyt anti slip tape.
You can add sand to a good floor or deck paint. It works well.
What type of wood ramp? Do you have a picture?
