At this time of year my garden is like a jungle and hunting for bug eggs isn't on my to-do list. So, I assume that the bugs will get them but by that time my neighbors and I will be tired of squash.

Hi Denise, handpick and smash them; look for eggs on the underside of the leaves and gently scrape off ( they're small brownish orange in a 'patch' ) - the best time to collect the adults is early in the morning.
