Hi, Jane!
There are all kinds of ways to make headboards for a queen bed! I have an entire list of plans to build queen beds, and any one of the headboards can easily be built as a separate piece. Take a look here: https://designsbystudioc.com/?s=queen+bed i I hope this helps!
I made my own n have had the same one for about 10 yrs...of course measuring the size of your mattress at the head...then have it cut to the height you want. The store cut it for me free. I used a piece of plywood and super soft white material. I laid down the plywood, covered it in foam ...only to where it would be seen from the height of the mattress to the top. After glueing the foam on I covered it in the material (of your choice). I stapled it to the back of the wood while carefully keeping it the same tension. It was really much easier than it sounds here. The nice part is, we are redoing everything from new flooring to new paint in our room. We love our headboard so if we want we only have to cover over what we have, with new material.
If you click on "explore projects" then "build" then "furniture" then "headboards" you will find a number of ideas. I have chosen one for you: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/build/furniture/s-11-upholstered-headboards-you-can-make-without-sewing-26535470
Please consider having a looking around at the Ana Whites website.
