If you're worried about a drop cloth slipping, just tape it before you start. It's not 100% perfect because the tape could let loose, but it should keep it in place with normal activity. If you're using it on wood and it's angled, you could try nailing it into place after placing furring strips on top, but I think that's overkill unless it's on a sloped area. As long as you overlap them, slipping shouldn't happen. Wishing you the best.
