Take them down and place in the bathtub or sink with a couple inches of water. Good for one to two weeks depending on how hot it is where you live. This is what I used to do before I hired house sitters to handle while I was away. Or if you have any family, friends and neighbors to do for you, just bring them a nice gift upon your return.
You can use a drink bottle with a water feeder attached to it. I use one to feed my dogs water the principal is the same. Just stick the feeder into the soil.
When we have gone away for a week or so, I have put them in a leak-proof container-such as those large aluminum pans with a couple of inches of water.
We have also used the in the soil bottles for shorter periods of away time and left them in place. Since you can'r count on weather predictions accurately, the bottle in the soil was the best option to accomodate the hanging plant.
I put my hanging plants in a shady place and water them well. Make sure they will get rain if it comes. Also putting the bottles in the planters is a good idea. Do you have lawn sprinklers? Put the planters where they will get sprinkled. Lastly...if your plants are down but in a good place....ask your neighbor if they would watch them for you. When you get home, offer to do the same for them.
