The biggest needs are lots of consistent watering, they like a lot of water, but not too much! Keep them far enough apart that they get air flow. They like somewhat acidic soil and extra calcium to prevent blossom end rot. If they are indeterminate plants, they need proper stalking since the branches continue to grow until the end of the season (for me, first frost), I have had patio tomatoes get seven feet high when I put them in a larger pot! I do let my grape and sweet 100's drape over all the plants to form a canopy without harm to the other tomatoes, as long as there is plenty of air room underneath. I have had sweet 100 tomato plants have fifteen foot branches, I wound them through the chain link fencing one year and measured the branches. That sure made the picking on those branches easier!
