How can make these look like a set w/o painting chairs white (pic)?
I would like to keep the table white. My hubby is not a fan of the chairs painted white. Please recommend a good paint that will last. Do I need to sand the chairs first?

Paint the chairs a light grey, charcoal grey, or black. Any of those shades should look nice with the white. Then maybe paint the legs of the table the same color as the chairs. Something like that ties the chairs to the table. I would use a super heavy traffic paint. I love Benjamin Moore ADVANCE. It is really a cabinet paint but this paint is really amazing and doesn't get chippy like other paint. When painting cabinets you don't have to put a sealer on top of this type of paint.....for chairs though I would think about putting a finish on top. Maybe like a General finishes topcoat. Good luck! Looks like a fun project!
I like K. Rupp's color suggestions. However, for really durable furniture or cabinet paint I recommend using a latex enamel gloss paint. The gloss has additional hardeners and will be more durable. Also, while sanding does help make a smooth finish, the real workhorse for painting furniture or cabinets is the primer. And, no, paint-with-primer does not replace using a stand alone primer such as Kilz. Use at least one coat Kilz and two of the enamel.
why not paint the legs and back spindles with a chalk paint that you can give a distressed looked but also allows you to keep the seat pad and back rest wooden which would hopefully keep your hubbie happy and blend chairs with table!
I would go grey for the chairs and perhaps even the base of the table. You want to use a high durable paint after priming with either Kilz or Zinsser's Bulls Eye. For the table top, check into RustOleum Enamel paint. It's very durable. I'm unsure if you can get it in grey but you might want to check available colors and use on the chairs as well. I painted a porch rocker with it over a year ago and it still looks brand new.
Thank you. Did you have to sand first?
I see you asking about sanding and I can tell you that proper prep is the key to a great result. Sanding/deglossing is needed on the chairs as they are shiny. You could skip this if you go with chalk paint and a poly sealer on top.
