It may be a good candidate for spray painting.
Spray paint come in multiple finishes including satin and matte which may be a nice sheen for your furniture painting project. The Rustoleum spray paints get my highest recommendation.
Have a look at the — Universal line has a wonderful applicator spray tip - that can offer effortless and professional results.
Only use oil based paints or rust preventative spray paint.

Annie Sloan chalk paint sticks great to metal. Also Modern Masters has a line made for metal. :)
