Hi Ginny. I refinish a lot of furniture on the blog and I usually just use a piece of folded sand paper. I like to be able to feel what I am doing. That being said though, there are sanding blocks that you can get that are long and narrow. They are perfect for this type of area and feel like a sponge with sand paper on it. Hope that helps!
I love using a dremel with a sanding attachment: https://amzn.to/2XPZmMn
Folded sandpaper or foam sanding blocks.
I also really like using the foam sanding blocks for a project like this.
you already have some great responses on how to sand. But: If you are just prepping for painting, you don’t have to sand. You can use a deglosser to remove the gloss so the new primer/paint will adhere.
