What can I do about hard water buildup on large plants?

I have hard water. A recently installed mister system is leaving hard water build up on my plants. Is there some type of filter that will reduce some minerals? How do I remove the buildup on the plants? I have tried vinegar/water but it did not do the job. The plants are too large to do by hand. I’m in the desert in Arizona. I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

  • Stop using tap water. Invest in at least a Brita pitcher filter or similar type water filtration system. I have horribly have chemical filled water too. I won't even let the pets drink it as there is a high rate of kidney stones in my area and so painful for pets.

A whole house water filter will do it. This will make your tap water safer to drink/cook with and your showers & tubs easier to clean.

They have to be installed where the main water line comes into the house with shut off valves on either side of it. This is so when one replaces the cartridge insert, there’s no water pressure.

A plumber or qualified handyman can do this.

One can buy different calibers or qualities of these filters and they all fit in the same housing, as long as you stick with the same brand.

I think the most affordable way is to buy an inline water filter for RV's. That is what I use when I water my garden and plants. It gets all the calcite and crap out before it hits your plants.

I use it to get water for my indoor plants. I use it when I put water in my hot tub so I don't have to add the chemicals to remove metals in the water.

I would love a whole house system but can't afford one yet so this is a poor girl's solution, lol

Garden shops carry a spray that restores shine to plant leaves. Florists commonly use it to make sure plant leaves are bright and shiny. Won't hurt your plants at all. Something similar is used for large botanical installations. Ever wonder how Disney World keeps their landscaping looking so perfect?
