How can re-painted particleboard laminate cupboards be updated?
How can 1980's already painted particle board with a laminate surface be updated to the 2019 era? The paint is chipping, hardware is old 1980's and there's a scrolled pattern on the front of the doors.

I would fill in all the chips first then lightly sand the surface. Add a suitable primer first and then paint. With raised edges a great product is coloured wax pastes which can be added to highlight them. This can also be used on the hardware.
Repair the chips with bondo or another filler.
Scuff the surface with fine steel wool.
Remove hardware and scuff as well.
Clean with denatured alcohol.
Prime and paint the wood with brush.
Spray paint the hardware.
Sand them down so the chipping is minimal. You can repaint over anything with chalk paint, that would be the easiest way to go.
