How can I put up shade on 5'x 10' uncovered deck?
Need some shade on blazing hot back deck on 2nd story brick apartment. Have been looking for canopy with 3 covered sides, but deck is only 5 feet wide (x 10+long). Needs to be pretty simple and inexpensive. Thank you for any ideas.

Hi there Lori, perhaps one of these ideas will fit in your space and suit your budget - https://homebnc.com/best-diy-sun-shade-ideas/
Hello Lori,
Use an old Valence Sheet or a Camouflage Net ( comes in many colours). You could buy an Awning and have it fixed for you orfix it yourself.
Lots of good, practical ideas from Michelle.
I’m gathering your landlord won’t let you attach any cup hooks to the building?
Can you zip tie painted pvc pipe to your balcony guardrail? If so, then you could make a tarp frame with T’s & L’s.
Like Tinker Toys.
If you can use brick clips, you can attach a tarp or canopy top to the side and then add 2 legs to attach from the side. Drape down and add weights.
How about a patio umbrella
PVC TARP FRAME EXAMPLE:
In the attached photo, Red = T’s, Blue =L’s.
This is PVC plumbing pipe. Easy to cut, easy to glue, and cheap - considering it won’t rust and is lightweight, yet strong.
Imagine this project 7’ tall and one set of side legs was zip tied to your balcony.
Then imagine a Harbor Freight tan plastic tarp over the top and you can zip tie it to the plastic frame.
Tah dah! 💁♀️
One last thing, this example ignores the fact that unpainted PVC pipe will eventually break down & become brittle because of UV. So, paint it after assembly & before the tarp.
Also consider buying nylon zip ties for the same reason. 😎
