begin with making an 'armature' - I'd use bent wire coat hangers for strength for the length of the "carrot" - stretch & bend the hanger to about the size & shape of the 'skeleton' of the carrot you envision. Leave the top hook of a hanger sticking out the top (or back) to be able to hang the carrot presuming you plan to) Then, pad it with aluminum foil crumpled up and wrapped around the hanger wires & wadded in between to build up about the right shape. You could use paper too, but it will rot & mildew if you are hanging 'carrot' outside. When it looks nearly carrot-ish, tie raffia or sea grass to part of end on hanger & begin wrapping - you may need to use waterproof glue, or hot glue or Duco cement to attach to the previous row of rafia & to foil. Before you get to the top insert fronds of green at top of 'carrot' then continue wrapping over the ends of the green with the orange. If inside you can use brown & orange sharpies to make horizontal lines in a few places to look like normal carrot growth but if using outside nailpolish mike hold up to rain better.
with the help of hot glue! I made those .. had so much fun doing it
