    - Most clotheslines are approximately 6 ft. tall. Two 10 ft. postswork well for this, because it gives you the height and allows 3-4 ft. of the post to be buried underground. You can also use a 8-8 1/2 ft. post instead.

    My biggest concern would be that the wood would rot after all your hard work. If you want to use the wood you have, maybe an exterior sealer would help. The link Peggy posted is the one I liked.

    Make sure you are using treated lumber or termites and general rot will ruin it quickly. You may want to polyurethane the wood, as stain will not stop decay.

    My clotheslines are supported by hooks on the house and hooks on the wisteria pergola. Usually there is something on a house that can support one end of a clothesline.
