How do I transition a paint color to another room?
I painted a room—the front foyer—but the walls continue to the 2nd floor. The wall leads into the kitchen area. Do I stop the paint at the top stair railing- the color for the 2nd floor is slightly lighter than the entryway walls. Thanks, Antonella

My old house was like that. I did the second floor the same color as the first. I stopped at the corners on the second floor. I liked the open floor plan, but planning paint wasn't fun.
Thank you.
Ok. Will try.
The natural place is at corners.
I have an open floor plan, and I have the same color in my upstairs hallway as the stairwell and livingroom. It is seamless flow that way.
I've thought about doing something different with the stair wall going up the stairs. What I've thought of is making a straight line using paint tape at the bottom of the stairs and then going up the stairs with it ending on that wall of the top of the stairs. My daughter gave me the idea when she painted stripes using painter's tape and a laser level and they are gorgeous.
You need something to separate the colors....how about a piece of wood....something like a half dowel rod? Or how about painters tape two inches apart to paint a lighter strip between the paint colors. Take the painters tape off....will look like a stripe in the wall and might look very good. All one color would look better IMO but if you want separation that would work.
