Army worm. Turns into a moth

I had a couple of these rascals around this year....never seen them before...they did eat my spider plant pretty good, but I got the sucker and smashed his butt!! I watch out now. I don't know!!.....the weather has been terribly hot with NO rain and different critters are showin' up......??????
