Use a clear silicone glue and there should be some trim that goes around the edges to give it that finished look.
If it was actually glued before, you’ll need to scrape the old glue off.
If it is steel, not aluminum, you’ll need to not scrape the factory paint off.
Considering that the door will flex a tiny bit, yes, you’ll need to use the frame/trim to help keep it from falling out.
I would use E6000 glue , tape it in place while it is crying then run a line of clear silicone around the edge to seal it .
