How can I update my 1960's sliding closet doors?
We just bought a house with lightweight hollow core closet doors - the kind that slide across or behind the other when you open one side. Any ideas?

How about something like this? https://www.frugalfamilytimes.com/2019/05/our-easy-hollow-core-door-makeover.html?m=1
I would change those doors out and install bifold doors. You will be able to access your closet better because they open up to reveal both sides.
Thanks for all of the answers - all good ones! I hadn't even thought of replacing with bifolds, or using the thin panels to make them look like real wood. Thank you.
You can add washi tape or make it look like there are panels.
Hi Pam, here's a fabulous Hometalk idea!

Closet Doors Makeover
If they have mirrors on the room side, you could apply a window film, they have some beautiful designs at Home Depot, Lowes, and Amazon.
If they are not mirrored, then you could take them out of the tracts and turn them around and put them back. Then paint or decorate as you like.
You could paint the doors the same color as your room to make them less noticeable. Very thin molding could be added to make them look a bit more custom. You could wallpaper them to coordinate with your other decor. Color block paint them if you like.
Hi Pam, hope this helps you out.
You can paint them a bold color
Add mirrors to them
Cover them with peel and stick

Decorative molding, stencils and corner pieces would look great.
Paint is always an inexpensive way to to update them.
A great way to make a statement with your closet doors is by adding trim. This gives the door a 3D effect that really makes it interesting. Even when it's all painted one color, those shapes really stand out.
Hi Pam: I'm thinking that paint is your only solution since you have a limited amount of space when you slide one door behind the other. Or, you can put a door mural on the door peel and stick door murals - Google Search Click on the blue print and the site will come up underneath.
