Hi Debbie,
Here's a discussion on ThisOldHouse that might interest you. In the discussion, one of the participants states that the stain is actually a sealer, but you should still use 3 coats of poly. Others have different ideas so this will give you options. Wishing you the best.

You don't want to fill in the cracks, unless you mean insuring the cracks get covered with sealant. There are liquid formulas applied with a mop similar to a swiffer. You make long, continuous strokes after applying a specified amount on the sanded and tack clothed floor. Don't leave a speck of dust, or it will feel gritty, beneath the sealant. It should require 3 applications for best coverage. You'll be able to walk on it after 3 days of optimal dry time/conditions.
If you're referring simply to a hardwood floor cleaner, many people swear by Bona.
The cracks, or gaps between the planks allows expansion and contraction. I vacuum my plank floors before I mop them.
They usually use sawdust to fill the gaps in hardwood floors, in really old wide plank floors they used rope.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-MsW89nyfM or they make wood filler for hardwood floors you can get at home depot or lowes.
