How can I decorate the back of a bookcase to use as a wall divider?
Need some ideas on how to decorate or make a design on the backside of bookshelves to be used as a wall divider that will face the dining room area of a rental home.
You could attach a beam from side to side and then use sliding doors to close this open and close this space off when you need to. Something like this picture:

Moulding would make a dramatic difference if you're just trying to dress the area up.
How about a sliding barn door? There are lots of how to out there to make your own.

Pocket doors may work. They slide right into the edge of the doorway.
I see only one pic and I am not sure what the room is. I have a similar opening to my kitchen (this is not really a doorway as it has no place to hang a door) What part of the opening do you want covered? All of it, sometimes? Sides? Top? You could use a standing screen, that folds. Is there other access to the room pictured? How permanent, semi-permanent, flexible should the item closing the room off be?
