How do I decorate furniture with vinyl decals?

I'm making over a desk in a Mary Engelbreit style. I can only do so much with stencils and was wondering about making decals by printing images on vinyl adhesive sheets. Anyone have any experience with vinyl decals on furniture? Should I just laminate the stickers or cover them with the topcoat that I'm using on the desk?

Top coat. Otherwise I think the decals may loose its adhesion and an air pocket might form around it.

I always recommend Mr Clean. My mom used it so I did too. It is good straight or diluted. I use it diluted in a spray bottle for general cleaning but use it straight on heavier spots.

How about printing on paper and decoupage them with Mod Podge on the desk. Then a coat of Mod Podge over them before putting on your topcoat.

I am painting the desk with glossy latex because I'm converting it into a kitchen island and have heard that decoupage does not adhere to latex well.
