How do I mix metals for the hardware in my kitchen?
I found cabinet pulls and handles for my kitchen remodel (I am doing it myself, a senior DIY'er … my priority in choosing them was comfort and fitting my hand. Well, the knobs I chose don't have coordinating handles, but geez, these pulls are ultra comfortable. Anyway, they are a brushed silver. I have a brushed silver light over the sink, brushed silver faucet … I still need to choose a light for over the island … IF I went w/some pulls/some handles the brushed silver and oil rubbed bronze as well as an oil rubbed bronze light for the island, would it look too busy or, perhaps, like I merely ran out of one or the other? The lower cabinetry is a light warm gray and the upper cabinet and wall are painted a light warm white. There would be a mix of two different styles/finishes on the lower cabinetry if I mix and match. My light over the sink is rather "modern" altho clean lines and has a white globe, I feel I should choose a rather simple light for the island, but it needs to be a two or 3 light fixture.

I think I would choose black over the oil rubbed bronze. I have light gray cabinets and I used some rubbed bronze hardware that I already had on my upper cabinets. I used black hardware on my lower cabinets because I had to buy new. I think the black looks much better and I think it would compliment the silver better than the rubbed bronze. Maybe if you look hard you might find some that combines black and silver. There are so many pretty decorative cabinet pulls out there!
Spray paint!
Mix away. As a kitchen designer it keeps things from getting boring. If you can find a two tone fixture that can marry the two finishes it would be cohesive. You can always fudge with spray paint or oil based paint on the metal.
I would keep all the knobs and pulls to match. Then, make a statement with the light over your island. All your surfaces are soft colors. Your opportunity to create a focal point is with the light.
I love mixing metals. Go for it
