How to clean a blackened skillet bottom?
I have my heavy cookware. the bottom of the skillet is caked with black something. I put this in the dishwasher so you wouldn't think it would build up. I don't have any pics right now but any suggestions would help.

Good morning Csue. I would try ammonia mixed in hot water with a little bit of dish soap, let soak until softened. Scrape away as much of the black as you can with something plastic, like an old credit card. Then scrub with a SOS pad. Depending how bad it is, you may need to rinse and repeat.
As long as it is not Teflon coated, oven cleaner like Easy off. Let soak for 25 min,use sos pad to wash off.
Soak in baking soda and warm water overnight.
Bar Keeper's Friend powder form and a scrubby should do the trick.
Thank You for the prompt answers. I will give them a try
