Hi Linda,
Use a Chalk paint if you want colour as this will go straight on top of the original finish, then give it a coat of Clear or Antique wax. If you want a metallic look, mask up the mirror ( If it can't be removed) and then take it outside and use a spray can (lots of finishes can be obtained) from DIY stores. Have fun!
Hi Linda,
Have you considered getting paint sample cards available at diy stores to see what you like? If a color really pleases you, you could get multiples of that color to give you a broader idea of what the frame could look like in an "on the wall" setting.
After you select a color, remove the frame from the mirror, if at all possible and paint. If not removable, then tape off the mirror with painter's tape.
Best to you.

Take the mirror out and spray paint the frame. There’s so many colors and finishes to choose from!
