I’m afraid you’re going to have to patch the holes & then slip cover the entire thing, in sections.
The dog can be rewarded with his/her own dog bed at your feet.
some times classes are given by the county extension division on how to re upholster furniture, worth looking in to.
A sofa of that type may be beyond a beginner to reupholster. I would recommend getting a quote from a reupholstering company. Check your phone book. If it is fake leather it may be possible for them to repair the hole.
