How do you cover your windows for winter?
Winters are very long & cold here so I usually buy a kit to cover the windows with plastic sheeting. However, I get moisture/frost in between the windows. Can you cover the windows from the outside of the house instead of inside or will it also create a frost build up?

Hello Sylvia! I use shrink window kits every year because I live in a very cold northern climate. I do not get any moisture/frost between the plastic and the windows. Are you using the shrink variety of plastic window kits that you apply with the tape provided and shrink with a hair dryer? Once you have it sealed and shrink the plastic it should be tight enough that you are not going to have warm air meeting cold air so you shouldn't get any condensation. You can cover the windows from the outside but I don't think it seals as tight and I know it doesn't look attractive.
We use bubble wrap rather than the clear plastic of most kits. We leave a slice across the top or down one side to look out, and the rest is covered with bubble wrap. One roll does all 14 or our windows and plenty for the next couple of winters. In spare rooms and hallways we completely cover the window. Hope this helps. You can tape it on with packing tap OR spritz the window with a little moisture, it will stick.
We live in Maine and have storm windows. I try to double curtain our windows. So we have sort of pull up shades (fabric) and then long curtains which I line with fleece. We close at dusk. It rarely gets lower than zero F but can stay in teens for a lot of the winter.
Use weather proof calk-silicone, outside, calk around your windows. Had the same problem, no more problems since I sealed the outside
The moisture between panes of glass may be a result of failed seals. You may need to contact a double pane window repair company unless you can effect repairs, yourself. If windows have removeable screens, remove them over the winter.
