Depending on how many cats we’re talking about you can build a doghouse. (Just don’t tell your kitties what it truly is.
I work at an animal shelter so I know this works:
Buy a large plastic bin with a lid (at least 2 to 3 feet high). Cut a hole on the side of the bin the size of a 1 pound coffee can (the right size for a kitty door)Place an old blanket or towel in the bin for warmth. Place the new "kitty hotel" near a wall or other area sheltered from the wind so the lid stays on.
Some friends of mine buy a large plastic tub and cut a hole for a door. Then they put a styrofoam cooler inside it and pack straw all around it. That way it is protected from the cold wind etc, leave a hole in the straw for the door too, and cut a corresponding hole in the styrofoam for a door. Put a soft blanket inside. On TOP, where dogs cannot get to it, they put water and food.
