What type of vacuum can I use to clean a high pile shag rug?
Good morning. Just purchased a very plush high pile rug from amazon. Safavieh Milan. Never had one before. I understand that you need to use a vacuum that doesn’t have that rotator piece which would grab the rug. Does anyone have experience with what type of vacuum cleaner works best for this situation or any other advice to keep my new rug In Tip top shape .Thank you.🇺🇸

Your new rug looks plush and comfy! Test your vacuum's "high pile" setting to make sure your vacuum isn't sucking up the rug strands. If it does, use one of your upholstery attachments to vacuum your rug. Good luck!
Many of the newer vacuum cleaners have a "beater / rotator" option where you just push a button to engage, or not. Just look for that option in the description when researching. Beautiful rug, looks like it would be super soft and comfy underfoot.
I have several high pile "shag" rugs like yours. Just set whatever vacuum you are using on the highest setting and run it as quickly as you can over the surface. If the rug isn't too large, you should take it outside occassionally and shake it.
You can use the floor attachment instead of the rotator on your vacuum.
Use your upholstery attachment often to keep your rug clean and looking fabulous.
I agree with Naomie. I just bought a Hoover High volume bagless vacuum to replace a very old one that finally died. I just like Hoover. It has the option to turn the rotator on or off. I would assume all new vacuums have the same feature. I also like the upright bagless rather than a canister. But that's a personal preference.
