Best, cheapest and animal-friendly way to kill weeds is to use a mixture of white vinegar and ordinary salt! Look up Pinterest for the recipes available.
Mix up 1 gallon of white vinegar, 1/2-1 cup of table salt, and a squirt of Dawn dish washing soap. Pour the mixture into a garden sprayer or a spray bottle and spray the weeds well. The soap will help the liquid to adhere to the weeds. Within a couple of days the weeds will die and get crunchy and can be removed with a rake or broom. Works every time! Just don't get the mixture on plants you want to thrive.
