  Here's a picture of it. How can I fix this ? It's from water from my husband taking a shower it has a small hole from wear and tear .and we don't have a lot of money to afford some one professionally do it we are wanting to do a black splash after we fix it can anyone please tell me what I can do to to do this my self and what I need to buy on products .it has no mildew yet in behind it .we bought the house 5 yrs ago this is our 1st home and we should have known better on should have been done. I do know that it needs calking .can you please help

It actually looks like it's above the shower wall. Is it drywall? You can cut out the damaged area and patch with drywall mud, Prime and repaint. Be sure to paint and Prime walls with moisture resistant paint or oil base paints.
