Hi Mary. Preparing Iris plants for winter is relatively simple. Cut your irises down to soil level in late Fall or early winter. Then put mulch on them 4 to 6 inches of mulch is best. You can also use grass clippings, straw, dead leaves or compost, as mulch. In Spring move aside most of the mulch and you will see tiny plants start to grow.
