Hello could you possibly post a photograph to better see your situation and area of concern?
Having a visual might be helpful to be able to offer the best guidance .....to a help find the best suggestions or potential solution for your problem.
Plastic laminate won’t take a lot of heat without yellowing- so I would caution again using an iron.
The epoxy that was used has failed. If water has wicked into the seams, the particle board substrate has failed- as in is falling apart.
If the substrate is not crumbling and not water damaged, you could try to vacuum out any crumbs and re-epoxy it. You’ll need to stack very heavy books or bricks on it until the epoxy cures.
