How can I replace laminate flooring?
So sick of this laminate flooring, guy didn't tell me it wasn't water resistant, edges are chipping off, space/gaps between each plank moves all the time. This co. has cost me well over $80,00. Last week the roof leaked into my hot water tank and I had to buy a new one. Frustrated Senior.

Hi June. I'm Cindy. I think the laminate should come off. Sorry . If you put plywood down over the laminate, you will have issues with doors opening/closing, and where the floor transitions into other flooring.
If the floor is glued down, that will be a tough job. You could cover with luan plywood and then put new flooring over that. It is a thinner plywood and less expensive than traditional.
June: I'm so sorry for your many problems. Warranty may be one way to go. Here may be another: https://www.aarp.org/legal-counsel-for-elderly/
Customers have to be very careful when buying laminate, that is what a salesman told me when we were looking for flooring. There are different brands with different levels of water resistance and water proofing, which is a perfect set-up for disaster and possible law suits.
Kathy's idea of putting down a layer of luan might work, then put a new floor covering on top of that.
Pulling up the laminate could prove to be a chore if it is glued down. Is it possible to contact the company that did the install to see if they used glue?
Hello there,
Is this flooring in a Kitchen or Bathroom? Should have been warned if you mentioned it at the time. That being said, I decided to have wood laminate floor in my kitchen. I have had two leeks from underfloor pipes, which when the floor dried out shrunk two of the boards. I was able to fill the gaps by using sawdust added to wood filler and Mod Podge. Now it is ok! I never soak my floor with water or Mop with water, I use Wet Wipes instead be because they dry fast!! Best wishes, Oh!
