I would drywall around it and make it a media center....paint 2 sides with chalkboard paint and cover 2 sides with corkboard to hang photos, notes, etc.

Make it a feature, by building shelves around it or applying mirrors, Building a dressing table, or just box it out and decorate as rest of room............
