How can I make a mirror?

Question

I saw an episode of someone house flipping and they made a mirror out of a piece of glass and some kind of reflective paint, I think. It was great. I want to make a mirror to fit on top of a dresser in the bathroom. Any suggestions?

Hi Marty. Krylon makes a paint called Looking Glass. It's a spray paint that will give you a mirror image. You can find it at Wal Mart for $10.84.

I have used this paint often on projects and while it does look like a mirror it does not work the same way. Your reflection will be distorted like the cheap vinyl mirrors you can buy from China. I think the idea it just to add a mirror effect to glass.

Hi Marty,...You know what, I just used mirror paint this past weekend. I loved the finish it gave me because I was redoing a lamp. I will never use silver spray paint again after using the looking glass paint. It looked so professional!!! But for actually making a real mirror, I would only use it if I was going to make a vintage mirror. Something that would be decorative like an aged framed mirror with an antique frame. I would definitely NOT use it for a bathroom mirror. People use bathroom mirrors to really see themselves perfectly. You know what would be much easier, cutting your own piece of mirror and framing it. Mirror and glass is pretty cheap at Home Depot and Lowes and if you know how to cut glass, it is very easy to do. The other idea is just picking up a wall mirror at a discount store like TJ MAXX or Marshalls. But there is no harm in testing a small piece of glass and seeing what you think yourself. A can of the mirror spray paint is like $10 so you really aren't losing much to try it. It is fun to see what that spray paint is like and what it can do. Good luck with your mirror.
