How do I antique a whitewashed cabinet?
I have an oak cabinet I plan to whitewash. I need to age or antique the finish to match the existing paneling. Any tips?

Hi. After you have whitewashed it, you could use waxes. They come in antiquing and clear. You add a layer of clear first and then a little bit of the brown coloured antiquing wax to add some depth and the aged look. Most decor paint lines have these now like Miss Mustard Seed, Annie Sloan Country Chic etc...
You could use a glaze to antique your cabinet. This would require having a coat of clear coat over your white washed cabinet first. Glaze is very easy to do and you put it on and wipe it off to get the look you want.

I agree with recreated designs. An aging wax will give you the effect you are looking for, I think. I would recommend using a test board first
Hi! I merely used Valspar Dark Wax over latex paint -- to get this look on the edge of my coffee table! ...used a paint brush to get wax into the "carving" -- and then to a rag to wipe off as much as I wanted. (See pic)
I have used Briwax dark and Minwax to antique the crevices on furniture. I used a stipple brush to get the wax in all the nooks and crannies. The wiped off the excess with an old t-shirt. Do you have a photo of the cabinet. Maybe a glaze would work better for you.
A dark wax over white will antique it.
You could use dark wax over the whitewash along edges or curves to make it look more aged

Use a dark wax over it. Start light, you can always make it darker.
White wash first then stain over it to the color you need
