Yikes. I suppose the thermal shock explanation could be it, but I have had glass cooktops for too many years to count and we are not careful. I have teenagers preparing meals and people don't always put the pot on the burner first. We also have taken very hot pots and put them on cold areas of the stove with no problem. It probably cracked from a dramatic swing in temperature. If the crack is small, you can repair it.

Temperature. Or, do you use cast iron pots/pans? I cracked mine using one and learned a lesson lol!
