Yikes. I suppose the thermal shock explanation could be it, but I have had glass cooktops for too many years to count and we are not careful. It probably cracked from a dramatic swing in temperature. If the crack is small, you can repair it.

Temperature. Or, do you use cast iron pots/pans? I cracked mine using one and learned a lesson lol!
