You could chalk paint it! Here are some tips: https://www.aratariathome.com/blog/chalk-paint-tips
Non-wood, means particle board or MDF, correct?
These products fall apart with water because they are essentially sintered or felted.
I would buy a sanding sealer, vacuum it & seal it very well, then address the surface irregularities.
If it sticks up & goes below the normal surface level, I would sand off the high spots, vac again and seal again.
Then I would fill in the below-surface with Bondo (auto parts store) it’s a two-part time-sensitive product. The more hardener you put in it, the faster it cures.
Sand the Bondo smooth, seal the exposed MDF again after vacuuming and the prime & paint
with “kitchen&bath” latex enamel or exterior grade latex enamel. 2 full coats.
Just sand it and repaint it or stain it. That's the best thing to do. Otherwise you can use a table cover.
Maybe you could paint it with chalk or milk paint? Both only require minimal sanding. Otherwise I’d get some nice tablecloths.
Hello, I would just repaint it, you can go with a black high gloss or try a nice chalk finish, I love chalk because it is so forgiving of imperfect surfaces! Hope this video helps you out

Hello there,
You could visit the DIY store and find a paint or stain for the material the table is made from, or cover it with a timber top or an all weather Oilcloth or maybe even Tile the top. Hope that helps.
I'd add a new wood top to it and paint. Add a cute table runner and it'll look lovely!
